John LaNear, PHD
Dr. John LaNear is the Vice President of Academic Affairs at Northcentral University.
Dr. LaNear joined Northcentral University in 2014. Prior to being named Vice President of Academic Affairs, Dr. LaNear was an independent education consultant, President and CEO of Grantham University, Provost of Ellis University, Vice President of Academic Services and Enrollment Management at Kendall College, Inaugural Director / Faculty Coordinator at Webster University, and Assistant Attorney General in the Missouri Attorney General’s Office.
Dr. LaNear has been published in the Encyclopedia of Education Law, the Journal of Educational Administration, the Journal of Law and Education, the Education Law Reporter, and Student Affairs Law and Policy Weekly. He has given professional and community presentations for a variety of organizations, including the Association for Study of Higher Education, the Education Law Association, the American Research Association, and the University Council for Educational Administration.
Dr. LaNear completed his Doctor of Philosophy in Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis in 2005 at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. His dissertation addressed legal issues of academic freedom for faculty and institutions. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2004 with a Master of Science in Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis in addition to the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Law in 1994 with a Juris Doctor, and Missouri State University in 1991 with a Bachelor of Arts in English.
