7/16/2013 - Northcentral University Earns TEAC Accreditation

Accreditation awarded to eight specializations in the University's Master of Education program.

PRESCOTT VALLEY, ARIZ, July 16, 2013 – Northcentral University (NCU), a global online, graduate-focused university, announced today that eight specializations in the Master of Education (M.Ed.) program have received five year initial accreditation through the Teacher Education Accreditation Council (TEAC).

The accredited M.Ed. specializations now include: Athletic Coaching, Curriculum and Teaching, Early Childhood Education, Educational Leadership, English as a Second Language, Instructional Leadership, Special Education and Sports Management. Two additional specializations currently under development, Reading and the Principal Leadership Certification specialization, will also be included in the accredited program once they have been approved by the Arizona Department of Education.

"We are so pleased to have achieved TEAC accreditation for our M.Ed. PK-12 specializations in addition to our University's regional accreditation from the HLC," said Dr. Cindy Guillaume, dean of Northcentral University's School of Education. "The entire accreditation process has been so valuable for our team, and we know that our students will reap the benefits of approval from such a highly regarded education accreditation body."

TEAC accreditation assures students that Northcentral University's M.Ed. specializations will support educational leadership for today's PK-12 teachers by providing courses that are current and relevant to the field. This accreditation is also a mark of quality in terms of the knowledge and skills that will prepare our students to become competent, caring and qualified leaders in their schools.

"Our mission in the School of Education is to prepare professional educators to become effective leaders, reflective practitioners and successful communicators," adds Dr. Renee Aitken, full-time faculty and TEAC chair for the School of Education. "TEAC accreditation confirms the quality of our M.Ed. program's PK-12 specializations, and ensures that our courses meet ISLLC and TEAC national standards."

In October 2012, TEAC announced a merger with the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) to form the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP). The accreditation will be recognized by this new accreditation body.
